Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
